Collection of icons from wood. (wooden icons) For me, Byzantine Hagiography is painting and theology combined. It is an artistic expression and an expectation of salvation at the same time. It's a transcendence, a way of portraying the transcendent feature. It removes the worldly light, space and time. It does not hesitate to break free from the naturalistic perception of secular art. It removes perspective and declares the secret depth. It transforms matter into spirit. For these reasons I decided to get involved with the style of Byzantine Hagiography, painting either sacred icons or modern works, imbued, however, with tradition, and references to the Byzantine Christian Art. . This work is an artistic depiction and an exact copy of a portable icon of the 15th century, located in the Byzantine Museum of Veria, in Greece. The Saint is depicted frontal and ascetic. The woods I have used are in themselves works of art that time patiently has carved. They are of the past century. I have been collecting them from old dilapidated and desserted houses in my place. Then I clean and maintain them in a completely safe and ecological way. Then I give "identity" and form to the work that time has already done on them. I give them life. And it is something that really moves me. I hope you feel the same emotion, too.

Hello. I'm Despo. I was born and I live in Greece, in the plain of Vergina, in the Ancient Aigai, the home of Alexander the Great. I create artifacts of art with the earthly colors of the Macedonian land. With the same marbles, the same clay and the same stones on which Alexander the Great walked beside his teacher, Aristotle. Art is one of the paths my soul follows to express and calm down itself. I started my artistic career as a hagiographer, but then I became involved in painting, angiography and pottery, wood carving. I create artifacts of art from wood, metal, wool, clay. The combination of all these materials is my great passion and my desire at the same time.
