About The Artwork

When we lived in Laguna Beach, two girlfriends and I used to go garage saling on Saturday mornings. We all lived on the same block so it was an easy meetup. We would get together and plot our route based on what sales were advertised in the Laguna Beach paper. There were also ad hoc sales that we had to keep an eye out that were advertised on handwritten signs tacked to telephone poles. We would either start on the south end and work north or on the north end and work south based on what we thought were the “best” sales. There was a drive through coffee kiosk in North Laguna that was also on our route. This composition came together over a couple of weeks of treasure hunting. I found the vase one weekend and the small silver pitcher a couple of weeks later. I arranged both of them on the dining room table on one of my vintage napkins that contained a lot of blue and grey. The window of the dining room faced South. And the light was that came through really made them shine. The work is 20” x 24” The frame is a wooden traditional frame in silver. The frame measures 25 ¼” x 29 ½” x 1 5/8” The frame is 2 7/8” wide

“The still lifes focus on intimate scenes from daily life, while the Film Noir & Western works evoke imagery inspired by the American films of that genre. “Initially I decided to focus on small intimate moments from my own life at home and while traveling, noticing when sunlight hit items in an interesting way.” “Painting is a creative outlet for me when I’m not acting. It gives me a feeling of control over my creative life. An actor often has to wait for projects to come along, but I can paint any time of the day. I sometimes describe my art as ‘spontaneous still life’. Whenever I see a likely subject, everything stops and I take photographs. This holds the moment in time until I can paint it.” “When working from the photos I don't necessarily want to re-create it exactly, but look to reimagine it. I do this it by adding color, and working with the light source to represent a mood or capture a feeling.” Unless otherwise noted, the compositions are oils on canvas or linen and range in size from 5” x 8” to 30” x 40”.
