About The Artwork
WE DON’T SPEAK ABOUT A PAINTED BAG, it's about a real painting framed, a 2 in 1 product if you want. You can expose it on the wall like any other painting or wear it like any other bag. I designed a bag that becomes a frame for a real, normal painting, realized in mixed technique on special canvas for painting. The painting has special treatments applied in order to be water and sun resistant, so like this it becomes possible to take it down from the wall and go away anytime. These are the steps of "production": first I realize the painting on canvas, then I glue it on a rigid support, than I apply the protection treatments. Once the painting is done, I start to conceive the bag-frame for each painting, following the chromatic of the painting. All the bags are hand-made, each one is unique piece. I use leather outside and precious textiles like silk or velvet inside. Sometimes the interiors are also painted. The final step consist in fixing the painting inside of the special frame that the bag has on the face. I specially designed the form of the bag very minimal, like a box and without accessories; it close with magnets in order to not disturb you when you were it or when you keep it on the wall. Inside it has 3 pockets. The philosophy behind this concept of portable painting is based on my wish to create a bridge between painting and people because I sadly noticed in the last years that we all became so stressed, so busy that we don't have time or mood anymore for a lot of beautiful things of life like watching an exhibition, admiring a sunset or even playing with our own kid. In this context, the portable painting is born like an exclamation, to make us sensitive to the abnormality of the contemporary life. It is my artistic message in order to help the people to realize this situation and remember that the art has to be part of our life and we have the power to change the things. We are busy at home, busy at the office, but I really hope that, maybe when we'll wait in traffic, with a portable painting next to us, we'll remember to reevaluate the important things of life and "change the direction".

"In this new series Vijoli remains faithful to her inquisitive nature, keeping up with her recent research and creating a new object, which indicates in its own particular way a radical reversal in the usual relationship between an audience and an artistic event: the portable painting. It is designed using the essential forms of an exclusive leather handbag, entirely handmade, which frames a little original painting. Each bag is a unique piece, exactly like the portable painting itself; and the bag too is not only carrying a painting, but its colours --both inside and outside-- are conceived in harmony with the chromatic structure of the painting itself. Through these special bags Vijoli is able to take --and not only virtually-- the picture off the ideal wall on which it traditionally hangs, in order to hand it directly over to collectors, and to create a chance to put her work in motion, while having it experienced in a more personal and perpetual way. Concepts like personality and uniqueness are the basis of these works and can be easily found in their meticulous craftsmanship, highlighting the relation between the artisanal skill and the innovative conception where the small, intentional imperfections are a clear example of that relationship. This is Vijoli's answer to an increasing request for unique, hand-crafted, non-serialised artefacts whereas she also creates an artistic object that automatically turns itself into a statement very likely to cause a stir both in the art and the fashion worlds."
