About The Artwork
This is a taffy store on the coast. It was a stormy day and I thought the pink of the store looked beautiful set against the rainy sky. I decided to create a scene of a lonely woman who goes to the taffy store on a rainy day because she is depressed. I modeled for this myself and my photographer partner took several shots of me walking from the store with a bag of taffy, so that I could create this painting. I really liked the string of lights on the store, but they were just closing and the clerk turned them off just as we were setting up the shots. I had to go inside and ask if she could turn them on again for just a few minutes while we got the shots. She was very nice and went along with it. In reality, I can't eat taffy at all because I struggle with a chonic health issue that precludes me from eating it.

I'm a fine artist who lives part time in wine country California and part time in New Orleans. After college I spent 4 years as a muralist designing and painting the background scenes for the animal exhibits at a wildlife museum. I have also worked as a commercial artist, primarily illustration and animation. I began to work seriously as fine artist while living for 3 years on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands where I was much inspired and influenced by the island's incredible beauty. My work at that point developed into symbolism and surrealism as a way to express my ideas about world issue, then gradually evolved into working with light which encompasses both what I see in the world around me, and what I see in my inner world.
