About The Artwork

SOME THINGS REFUSE TO BE PART OF A TREND The abstract expressionist work STRTBPOAT was created over many months (2021-2022). This is due to the large format and the use of the many colours from which the artist has formed a polymorphous sculptural colour landscape. At the same time, it reflects the zeitgeist of abstract painting that struggles with the dissolution of the traditional colour principle. With voluminous application of paint (oil paint), Ecker creates hills and valleys, colour rocks that slide into the depths. Ecker advances the colour to the actual object and at the same time he creates in the second layer, which consists of piles of paint, a veiling of the painting that lets us guess what is hidden behind it. Above this, an illusionistic three-dimensional pictorial space is created, consisting of the overlaps of the individual areas of colour, as well as areas of colour superimposed on top of each other, which emerge in relief. Ecker offers the viewer:inside an exciting journey into the depths of his work, from which one can only escape if one takes a step back. Material: Oil paint, gold imitation paper, canvas, stretcher. Production: 2021 - 2022

Martin Ecker (*1963 in Frankfurt am Main Germany) lives and works in Berlin. Ecker began his artistic work as a musician at the age of 14, later adding performance and acting until he began to work with painting, photography and video art. Martin Ecker is a German photographer and painter who has devoted much of his work to deciphering the reaction of chance and intention. His fascination with experimenting with reactive processes is of great importance: the observation, the action and reaction, the staging. In addition, Ecker has developed unique methods, such as the use of living organisms in photography or oxidation processes in painting. Space, time and light are recurring themes. His works can be found in international collections, companies, private collectors and art lovers.
