My inspiration for the works in the float series is based on how we react and cope to different life situations – sometimes through relaxation or meditation, generally slowing down, allowing the mind to float and revitalise, while at other times, conversely, it may be activity which creates a new energy.
I hope the viewer senses a feeling of calm and peace in the paintings, some vulnerability, but also strength.
I have chosen to use linen for the painting, leaving parts of the surface exposed, capitalising on the warmth of the natural colour but also to highlight the paints fragility. To further accentuate this I use a “soak & stain” technique first used by Helen Frankenthaler in her 1952 colour-field paintings.

Pam’s career began in the theatre having trained as a ballet dancer. After several years of performing and teaching dance she developed arthritis which ended her dancing and teaching careers. Needing a creative outlet Pam decided to pursue her passion for art by studying fine art at the Ipswich and Norwich Schools of Art, receiving the Jessie Griffiths and Drawing for all awards while studying in Norwich. Through her passion for colour and use of delicate layers of oils Pam’s paintings become elegant canvases of depth, movement and emotion. Pam is included in the book “British Artists since 1945” by David Buckman. “For me, creativity is life. Through my paintings I hope to develop an understanding of the experiences most of us go through during our lives by showing emotions through colour, adding layer upon layer as with the complexity of emotion, connecting mind and body with the flow of movement. I’m so lucky to have experienced both my careers but as with everyone I have also been through some difficult times which have given me more strength and understanding which I believe enhances my paintings, sculpture and instillations.”
