In this series of abstract paintings I start with Ink and gesso on canvas or linen, referencing the Japanese art of Sumi-E, and Mono Ha. In the oil paintings of the line series nothing is wasted; beauty is condensed to a brush mark of oil colour applied to the wet surface, it moves and breaths across the surface, it is immediate and of the moment. Painting through in a trance-like state, freeing the mind and focusing on body moving naturally and unconsciously; the act itself is a kind of performance of which the marks become the record, then the canvas tilts creating a directional flow across the surface.
