About The Artwork
This work is inspired by Istanbul and childhood memories of WB Yeats poem “Sailing to Byzantium”. In it he describes taking the form of a bird which sits “upon a bough to sing to Lords and Ladies of Byzantium of what is past or passing or to come”. The work shows a view looking towards the Marmara Sea and the entry to the Bosporus as the sun sets.
