About The Artwork

Temperance is regarded as one of the four cardinal virtues together with Fortitude, Justice and Prudence. The word temperance means at the same time reserve and self-control, moderation, serenity, prudence, resistance to impulses, management of emotions (without repressing them) in addition to measurement, sobriety, patience, decency, humility, modesty, focus (concentration, reflection), the search for peace, forgiveness, and even, to a certain extent, sublimation. More simply Temperance is love giving itself entirely to that which is loved. I also like the definition of the psychiatrist Boris Cyrulnik: "Temperance is the heroism of everyday life." Here Temperance is depicted as a winged angel, female or androgynous, pouring liquid from one receptacle into another, representing the dilution of wine with water. Acrylic painting with collage of natural wooden material on canvas 47,2 H x 23,6 W inches (120 x 60 cm).

Ingrid Leddet is an artist and sociologist. Born in Paris (France) she has adapted from her early childhood to a variety of climates, tropical or temperate landscapes, ancient cultures, new societies, passionate or moderate, cheerful or taciturn people. All those portions of life prompt her to give vent to her memories. Series HUMAN TREES Preserving the environment is also one of her concerns. Ingrid Leddet likes to recall through art that man is totally part of nature. She created a series of panels entitled "Human trees". Her painted sculptures made of natural materials are integrated on the surface of wooden panels. According to the artist there are few differences between human beings and trees. Trees just live longer. Their hard and often rough bark hides or protects a heart, an alive and vulnerable spinal-cord. The panels entitled "Discovery", "The shade that one starts to see", "Tree skin", "At my tree's feet", "Struck by lightning,", "When the tree does not hide the forest any more", "Punch Bag" are close to reality.
