I'm an ambitious artist with a studio based in Folkestone's Creative Quarter along the south east coast of England. Having lived by the sea for most of my life, it's inevitable that dramatic seascapes would become my primary painting subject. In fact, sand and stone are signature ingredients of my mixed media pieces. Whilst I enjoy painting local scenes, as a Travel Journalist and Writer, my art is inspired by images from all over the world. Most of my work bears an element of realism and is defined by its strong, vibrant colours. However, I delve in a few abstract pieces from time to time. Most of my abstract pieces are raw, unplanned experimentation but they're an essential part of finding unconfined pleasure in painting. I'm not one for insisting that a painting must have some deep mysterious meaning. At the end of the day, someone will buy a piece simply because they like it, not because the rapid azure brush strokes represent an inner need to mend a broken paternal relationship. It's just blue paint. Like most creatives, I was always told never to take up a career as an artist, writer or musician. So I was sensible and decided to forego the musician aspirations. The same cannot be said for the art and writing, and after many years of working as a TV Producer, my desire to paint became much more appealing than the stress of organising film shoots. I can't pretend I'm the most highly accomplished artist, I learn something new every day and I know there are many more mistakes to be made. But I'm prepared to fail in the pursuit of my first love if it means finding fulfilment. Who knows where this journey might lead....?
