A drawing I made very automatically with a girl under something like a forest but with 4 abstract plants or trees. That's the basis of this painting. But once I had it in the big (compared to what i regularly paint) stretched canvas, things started to evolve. Pretty soon I had this big doodle in red and took over the painting. The girl was not that important anymore and I started to relate it to the story of me becoming an artist. It is not something that was easy cause circumstances and lack of character, I have to be honest to my self. Being a mother at 21 was too soon and I was completely into believing in nature as my guide. I think the white and red as my parents, a couple that is so overpowering in their beauty and love for each other. They did not help me in becoming an artist and directed me to be more productive and study design. So there I was at a design school that was almost like a sect. During the dictatorship the only art that was left alone was the abstract. so all my natural inclination to draw and paint the figure was pushed under by the rule of the abstracts.

I am interested in experimenting with sincretic images that capture the whole range of religious experiences. I am inspired by the architecture and mural paintings of the Aztecs, Mayan, Zapotecan and other peoples from America and I like to intersect them with the aesthetics brought to America by the Spanish, like virgins, saints and holy beings. I intersect them with a third paradigm which is my personal journey into Indian philosophies and the idea of enlightenment. The result shows where I am now, believing that art is the way, and being an artist is my religion.
