About The Artwork

There are 5 versions of this painting with one having 5 people. One version was sold by Sotherby’s New York in 2011 for around £250 – £300m Post Impressionist Paul Cezanne’s series of paintings of local Provencal men quietly concentrating on a game of cards are amongst his most popular works. He has stripped the scene to its bare essentials – two men facing each other across a table. Yet, quiet and provincial it may appear, this is a revolutionary painting. For the sake of artistic unity Cezanne has abandoned traditional perspective – for example the table appears irregularly shaped as if seen from several different angles at once, its top tilted forward. Whilst the men’s bent knees appear flattened one above the other against the front of the picture. Although the painting seems to be just grays and browns it has rough patches of blue, red and green to add vitality. I have been very fortunate to have had an incredibly rewarding day job as an Architect with its creativity and variety. My other huge passions are music and artwork and have always had varying amounts and types of art going on throughout my life. The aim recently has been recreating wonderful images I have admired all my life to give people, with a desire for something beautiful, to treasure display and admire in their homes. It has been a hard discipline reproducing methods of a number of completely diferent aritists of the past, different textures, colours, ways of applying paint has been testing but very, very rewarding!! Thank you Carl Ince
