About The Artwork

There is a painting that founded the motif of the gnarled couple attempting to self reflect. One of the biggest catalysts of these gnarled people was the two year hell of wondering if my past actions had any merit. Each of these paintings came with a paragraph I wrote based on what was going on between me and someone close. ______________________________________________________ It is the fatalist who enjoys the idea of two damaged people limping together and destroying each other. However this idea is selfish as few people are an island. Whatever happens to someone has a ripple effect towards those they know or love. The romantic interest of mutual self destruction is ridiculous, and the only reason those who suffer through that problem believe it is because they've let others and themselves convince their heart that it's the only solution. No one likes the reflection, but what are you going to do about it? What about you loved one, what will you both do with it? The last step that boarders death is a complete self destruction before turning yourself around, sometimes the significant other will see that and try to better themselves for the sake of the other. It doesn't work all the time, and usually those types of personalities end up terrible. Rarely it works, and those type of people aren't as appreciated as they should.

People within the work are often gaunt with enlarged heads, gnarled skin, and emancipated bodies. They are a projection of what we are afraid to admit to ourselves. The world that these figures inhabit has an overwhelmingly strong presence of emotion. It can be interpreted as negative, but with the dark tone comes the light. Being encapsulated inside your mind and creating dark does nothing for your being, it gives the illusion that there is nothing but doom and gloom. Feelings of isolation and detachment makes things worse, and expressing an individual view of your world can be challenging if your tongue is perpetually grasped in fear. I merely hope to express my experiences with those I regard as very close with a dream like environment in hope I’m not alone with my personal relationships and how they either regress, or progress.
