About The Artwork

This diptych is depicting a hunting scene. On the left side of it is what presumably the hunter sees from his rifles’ scope. Apparently he can see a huge, ugly and dangerously looking insect-like monster, which seems to be at a very close proximity to the hunter, as the indicator of the scope, intended to measure distances to targets, displays just “000”. On the second part of the diptych (the right side) we can see the same scene, but from the opposite perspective. From this point of view it appears that in fact through his scope the hunter is actually looking at a quite ordinary ant, that is sitting right on top of the front sight of the barrel of the hunter’s rifle and above the muzzle. This diptych is an allegory with the idea that lots of people usually tend to overestimate the problems they face occasionally in their everyday lives. Some of those problems may look really monstrous from their point of view and hard to deal with. Pretty much like looking at them through a magnifying glass. While in reality and if to take a look at the same situation from the opposite perspective, those problems may in fact be insignificant and easy to deal with. The ant on top of the rifle’s front sight is also reminiscent of the famous scene from the Hollywood movie “King Kong”, in which the giant ape is climbing a skyscraper.

I am a Russian - German - American Artist currently residing in Southern California. I find my inspiration in the world around me and in my loved one. I do not usually follow the same style in all of my artworks and while some of my paintings just depict the beauty of the real world around me, the others are more about telling different imaginary stories and revealing unusual characters and situations. My diptychs and triptychs are more like visual stories where the presentations from different perspectives depict common and not so common situations and circumstances. Such an artistic trick allows me not just to tell a certain story, but it also turns a 2D image into something similar to 3D object thus greatly expanding viewers’ visual experience and further stimulating their imagination.
