About The Artwork

Oil on stretched canvas Tribute There are three authentic versions of Van Gogh's 'La Chambre à coucher', distinguishable by the pictures on the wall. They depict van Gogh's bedroom at 2, Place Lamartine in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France,(the Yellow House). Van Gogh started the 1st version during mid October 1888 while staying in Arles (in the possession of the Vincent van Gogh Foundation on permanent loan to the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam). In April 1889, he sent it to his brother regretting that it had been damaged by the flood of the Rhône while he was interned at the Old Hospital in Arles. Theo proposed to have it relined and sent back to him in order to copy it. The 2nd version, a "repetition" in original scale, was executed in September 1889.(now in the Art Institute of Chicago) . The 3rd version is smaller, given to his sister Wil (on permanent display in the Musée d'Orsay, Paris). My interest is in the location of the artist to produce this composition. With considerable detail I have reproduced the alternative view of this famous and favorite bedroom.

I am a full-time artist, living in the south of France.I paint what I like, but I hope others like them enough also to buy them. I enjoy undertaking commissions and competitions as these challenge me to focus on someone else's perspective. Shape, form, colour and composition all interest me. I paint in numerous styles, with a freedom and a humour that is my watermark. Many of my works are landscape and abstract paintings in oils and acrylic, but my collection of people and surreal still show that exuberance of colour, composition and subject. I am inspired by nature, man-made forms and the humdrum, and I like my art to hint at a story or conundrum. My paintings are distributes around the world. Only about half of my current collection is in this gallery, please get in touch with me, or visit my web-site, to see more works for sale or sold. I welcome personal visits from collectors and I am also keen to find permanent gallery locations in North America, Europe mainland and Britain for my paintings.
