About The Artwork

Being in nature is calming, most would agree with that. Most might also agree that while spending time in the woods or places of natural wonder that more is going on than meets the eye. A sub level of energy and power that can't be measured but is everywhere. Natural energy can be felt in subtle ways be humans but is easily understood by animals. This painting was made from many sketches from this thought. I live in Florida near a wildlife refuge, so there are many wild things living around me. Third Shift is the time of day the animals are working and passing on their understanding to each other.

I am a painter, I paint in oil or acrylic on canvas often using my sketches or photos I have taken putting them together in a way I think tells the story I want to tell. I also enjoy Plein Air ( painting outside) setting up my easel around nearby sites or while I am traveling. I am lucky enough to have a sunny studio to set up multiple easels in my home, so the commute is short! Q- What subjects do you paint? A- I really enjoy natural elements, plants, trees and landscapes all make appearances in my work. Some of my artwork is very straightforward, a painting of a beach access or tropical plants for example. Lately I’ve been painting figures and animals in my work. To me Animals represent the natural world’s knowledge while people represent human knowledge. Often we as humans think we know and understand all that is happening, but there are many subtle energies that only animals understand. So these are stories about this relationship. grew up in the midwest county-side with parents who created a life they loved full of gardens and homemade bread. I had my eyes in the clouds, climbing trees and drawing were my favorite hobbies. I had many wonderful teachers along the way who inspired me. I even became an art teacher myself while I lived in Tennessee.
