About The Artwork
DESCRIPTION: Turquoise Deeps 1 is the start of my new series. My goal is to develop beautiful effects with blue, turquoise and green colours. I hope to evoke positive emotions for the viewers of my artwork. The variety of sea colours and myriads of unusual creatures crowding the depths are fascinating and inspiring to me. I would not have this awareness, except for the wonderful TV programs of the British natural historian and broadcaster, Sir David Attenborough. He has explored our Great Barrier Reef (Australia) over many years and shared this incredible undersea environment with the world. I’ve hand mixed the colours to descend down the surface from blue, through turquoise to green. The painting is worked in 5 layers of colours to achieve the richness, depth and professional finish I desire. MATERIALS USED: Acrylic paints on stretched canvas. Unframed. Outer frame is optional, but not needed - all the sides are painted as an extension of the picture. Please see side view in additional images. SHIPPING: Economic, low carbon shipping in a heavy duty plastic tube. Packed well to prevent damage in transit. The packaging materials can be recycled. INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS SHIPPING FROM AUSTRALIA: Because this artwork is oversized, I take it off the stretcher frame and ship rolled in a tube.You then have a small package with a low shipping charge and low carbon emissions. The painting will need to be secureded on a new stretcher by your local picture framer. OVERSIZED PACKAGE: Larger than 120cm (48 inches) on the longest side, when packed. This is when the canvas artwork is on a timber frame, ready to hang and packed in a plywood box. Because it’s a big, heavy package, shipping charges are high, also carbon emissions are high. I create my art with passion, happiness and a sense of being lucky. Contemporary abstract style is the most natural to me. Important influences are nature in many forms, the human body and people. As I develop the picture, a story evolves in my imagination. My expression is inspired by life's complexity and energies. Major areas of work are painting and drawing. Painting The subject and style determine whether I work in oils, mixed media or acrylic paints. I love to paint with complex colour interactions and challenging compositions. In my Colour Circle series of oil paintings, my interest is in the dynamics between emotions and visual impact of colour. I use complex colour structures and layers of texture. A formal style brings coherence and harmony to the picture. For me, oil painting is a slow, thoughtful process. Drawing In my current drawing practice I use layers of lines and colours in mixed media to form the composition and develop my ideas into stories. I love to draw quickly and spontaneously to music. The life model, props and music provide the catalyst for me to enter the world of my imagination. I attend weekly Dynamic Drawing sessions at Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia.
