Born in Buffalo, New York in 1966 Living and working in Amsterdam, The Netherlands since 2000 Kenneth Jaworski has always known he was an artist. As a boy of 10 years old he was already painting and drawing, inspired not only by Mad Magazine and legendary comic book artists such as Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby, but also by artists he saw at Buffalo’s Albright Knox Art Gallery; Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Robert Motherwell, Richard Serra, and Ellsworth Kelly, amongst others. “To live near that museum was a gift”, he says. "It was really part of my education and understanding as an artist". Jaworski’s parents didn’t encourage his desire to make art because ‘he wouldn’t be able to make a proper living of it’ so, he studied English literature in University, toying with the idea of going into Academics or Law; ‘proper professions’. However, after graduation, Jaworski became a Graphic Designer. With art still very much part of who he was, and a deep desire to create, he returned to the studio in 1998 and made art in earnest, resulting in several group shows and a critically-acclaimed solo show in September 2000 in Buffalo. Later in 2000 he moved to The Netherlands. While he came here for love, after the relationship broke up, he decided to stay in Amsterdam. “Dutch people are more human, more open-minded. The way society is here- more we than me - it really speaks to me” Working as an artist in a new country was challenging, and after some early stops and starts, including participation in several small shows, Jaworski began a successful career as an interior designer. He furnished and designed dozens of private homes, hotels and shops. For many interiors, he selected works of art from others. "In 2013 I was doing an important commercial project for which the client needed several works of art. I rather spontaneously decided to suggest some art works I had recently made myself; some sketches and studies. My client really loved what I had presented. I think it was what I needed to shake things loose for me… From that moment I decided to focus on working fulltime as an artist again.” That particular project led to several noteworthy fine art commissions and long hours in the studio. He is still inspired by the artists he discovered as a young man; The New York School, 80’s Pop Artists, Minimalists and modern painters, like Gerhard Richter, Pierre Soulages or Antoni Tapies.
