. Artist ~ Jan Cleveringa Title ~ 'Untitled'- (Screenshot 10- Pixel Reductive Series). (3 billion changes) 2018 / Photo: artist . Painted on cradled panel Birch wood (or box frame backing 4cm depth) these new series of screenshot inspired painting's are coated in a glass resin glaze. These works are painted Reductive screenshots or minimalst pixelated inspirations as a metaphor for a time and place held within the rapid cultural change caused by the mobile phone on culture. The original images have been reduced to pixels or glitches. Cleveringa utilises the conceptual metaphor of the 'filter' and the 'screenshot' as as an aesthetic mechanism, as well as part of an actual art making process, to deconstruct and reconstruct imagery as an analogy of global cultural change created via the mobile phone changing identity with it's concomitant social impacts. He takes a snapshot in time by creating a final defined screenshot image as part of the artists process: both as the final artwork or; as inspiration for further artworks such as video art, painting or installation.
