The art work is a visual representation of the following poem titled 'Ordinary'. The poem is also written by me: Ordinary The drilling on the street wakes me up I look out through the window Three men in florescent overalls One drilling the other two sat watching The street is empty A stray cat A crow A cyclist I switch on the radio, make a coffee and start a crossword 8 across The clue is; ‘common, typical, same as always’ That’s an easy one ORDINARY. I put the crossword down and look into the mirror I ask myself, has my life become ordinary I don’t have much desire or passion to do anything anymore I’m not living for anything in particular I don’t want to try anything new I live the daily monotony of this life Get up, get ready, go to work, pretend, come home, watch tv, eat, go to sleep Maybe that’s ordinary Maybe I am ordinary I take a sip of coffee and look outside the window again The clouds are joining together to make shapes an obese hippopotamus a duck with no legs a deflated football Clouds change constantly they take on new shapes, evolve But I have stayed the same Throughout the years I have done nothing much I am ordinary ‘The UK has now reached a total of 148 thousand deaths, early indications show that the new variant will spread further’ I switch off the radio. Maybe I should be grateful for what I have Everyone always says, ‘well, at least you have your health’ I don’t mean to be ungrateful or greedy but shouldn’t there be a little more than good health? Maybe I need to be thankful for the simple things Health, shelter, warmth, food Isn’t that Maslow’s hierarchy of needs? Maybe he had a point I’m sure he had self-actualisation at the top of that damn pyramid Should I not aim for a bit more Should I not be a little less ordinary? I take the bins out and set off for work.

Follow me on instagram: @artist_nadeemb (commissions available) Growing up in the British Northern town of Lancashire. My creativity was recognized and encouraged from a very early age, subsequently, I attended the Cumbria Institute of Art and Design. I carried on developing a passion for fine art and my initial training and self learning was in drawing, painting and sketching. I spent a lot of time looking at the works of Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon as well as impressionist painters such as Monet and Pollock. Within this period of mainly consisting of self learning I looked and studied intensely form both within the human figure and the form contained within inanimate objects. Being of Indian origin, artists such as Bhupen Khakkar, Gaitonde and Raza have influenced my work to some degree. I have taken on the cultural and traditional practices from a variety of art forms and acquired them through my own self-learning period of art. In the past three years I have started to develop more of a signature style using very expressive strokes and my inclination now is towards abstract form of line, colour and shape. I am searching for intensity, colour and energy within my work.
