About The Artwork

I am writing a book and illustrating it,in cooperation with my Pastor based on the 14 Stations of the Cross. It is a critique of conservative christian evangelism from a liberal but orthodox perspective. As I own the copyright of the images ai don't mind selling the originals. This illustrates our projected station; We are Mothered.' The work was inspired by the great Vladimir Madonna in Russia. I chose pastel mixed with gouache and water-colour as it is my favourite medium and lends to an 'antique' and spiritual/religious feel to the piece.Which is what our project demands. I hope viewrs will feel the reassurance and serenity of orthodoxy and yet by the modern technique and style,a continuity with the past and relevance to the prsent.

I am a pastellist, mainly and have been a professional artist since 1990.Iam based in West Yorkshire but have work in the 'Riverside' Gallery,Barnes,London. Have exhibited fairly regularly with the 'pastel Society' at the Mall Galleries,London since 1988. Have had work accepted at the Royal Academy and at the 'Not the Royal Academy' show at the Llewelyn gallery,Waterloo. Have work in galleries throughout the north,Yorkshire mainly. As a Francophile I love the work of their Impressionists and the 'School of Paris' of the late 20th.Century.I also see myself as a part of the English neo-Romantic traditon-with more than a nod to our Scottish neighbours.I revere the painting of the late Joan Eardley for example but my main affinity is with Dabid Bomberg-that unsung hero of British 20th.Century painting. For me,painting is certainly not 'dead' and I see myself as working well within the tradition(if that is not contradictory!) of modern European painterly semi-abstraction,though I have a strong sense of tradition and se myself also as a follower of the great Cave Painters of the Dordogne and Northern Spain. Though I am a studious woman and something of a seeker,I distrust much contemporary Art Theory and pseudo-intellectualising and my approach-once Iv'e put the books down is passionately intuitive and spontaneous-like cooking,in fact!
