About The Artwork

Architecture is by definition the practice of designing spaces organised to house different types of activities, we intend them to be functional and durable, however, all creation is subjected to the rules of time and inevitably to their ruin and destruction. Despite this announced destiny and the apparent pessimism that accompanies it, it is in destruction that we find the space for the new and the reconstructed. The prophesied fate of the title leaves us then the space to a latent optimism, space transformation and renewal and this the space of Painting. We can then assume that the work presented in this exhibition is mainly about Painting, a space within a space where the interior and exterior are mixed up in making and remaking an object or a story, or many stories and many objects for so equal become one. The same painting done again and again in order to find their inevitable outcome, and as all the stories that we know, ends loaded with traces of the time it fell to him. Stories are only the marks and the memories selected by the teller, is in that process that painting happens, not intended to represent the origin itself but incorporating on it, the fundamentals of its genesis, elements of texture, color and shape. The texture of the piece is created with large amounts of acrylic paint and reminds us of the texture of Portuguese artistic tiles when removed in our abandoned houses and palaces.

These works are characterized by a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, often created through the layering of paint and the use of gestural brushstrokes. My approach to abstraction is informed by a wide range of influences from the artificial or man-made world, including the built environment such as cities, buildings, and infrastructures. My paintings are often composed of multiple layers that create a sense of depth and complexity. I often incorporate a variety of media and techniques into them, including acrylic paint, Indian ink, and collage elements. Many of my paintings feature gestural marks and lines that suggest movement, energy, and time while others are more restrained and minimal in their approach. My abstract paintings invite viewers to engage with the emotional and sensory aspects of art and to explore the many layers of meaning and interpretation that can be found within each piece. Many of my paintings have titles that refer to architectural concepts, scientific terms, and poetic metaphors. This suggests that my interest is not only in the visual qualities of aesthetics but also in their underlying principles and theories. Altogether, while the work is certainly abstract in the sense that it does not depict recognizable objects or scenes, it is also deeply informed by my interest in formal language. This gives the paintings and drawings a unique character and sets them apart from the more purely gestural or expressive forms of abstract painting.
