Another painting of the hills at the western edge of the Canterbury Plains. In the last one, it was dry, dry, dry. Here, it looks as though the prayed-for rain is at last about to fall. I challenged myself to complete a painting a day during the lockdown. That's kept me really busy. It isn't the painting so much as the editing, the interminable waits while the camera battery recharges, the time the video editor takes to create the mp4 file, the uploads to facebook and to youtube. But the days keep passing, and each day, I'm surprised by the number of the painting. Several times, I've gone back to check on the number for the previous day's painting. So I guess it's one way of passing the time...

Paul Lyons is a New Zealand artist working in watercolour.
He uses a variety of techniques to achieve the unusually rich, dark colours and textures that characterise many of his watercolours, and his paintings often include layers of collaged Japanese rice paper or gouache.
He has exhibited in various galleries, including the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and his paintings hang in collections throughout New Zealand and in America and Britain.
The paintings are all watercolours executed with archival-quality materials (100% rag paper and paints with a lightfastness rating of A or AA).
