The painting is about two lovers who want to be together, but are slowly drifting apart, yet they cling onto that last bit of love. It was inspired by the song "Phantasmagoria in Two" by Tim Buckley (especially the line "If you tell me of all the pain you've had I'll never smile again"). I hope it brings out feelings of love, comfort, and despair and to wonder whose hands are holding the woman's face.
