About The Artwork

The works is from my series entitled The Iron Stove. I discovered the idea that proved essential for the series having read a fairy tale of the same title by the Grimm Brothers. It is a story of a prince cursed into an iron stove left in the dark woods for a long time. One day a lost princess accidentally finds the stove. She can hear the prince inside, but cannot see him. The prince promises to tell her the way home if she comes back, sets him free and marries him becoming the queen of his great kingdom. The scared girl tries to resist keeping her promise and avoid returning to the stove. The prince, however, cannot be deceived and finally, she has to confront her unwanted destiny. Using a knife she scrapes a hole in the stove, looks at the prince and immediately falls in love with him. She frees him, but there are still more obstacles the lovers need to overcome in their pursuit of happiness. The iron stove symbolizes the fact of being closed, not necessarily physically. The stove is dark and cold, without any fire. The cold iron cools feelings and emotions, as well as their expression. This awkward emotional armor protects one from contacting others – it becomes a barrier against getting to know them, trusting them or opening to them. Psychologists use the terms “iron stove” and “narcissism” interchangeably and the fairy tale functions as an example employed to study and explain the problem.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I decided to paint the works in watercolors since I generally find them perfect as regards imitating human body, i.e. the soft and delicate tissue we consist of. I have always tried to work fast and without hesitation and I think the technique actually requires such an attitude - one cannot change or correct anything. During a painting session I create up to a dozen or more works which later become subject to harsh selection. I neither do sketches nor plan the composition of any given painting. I work very impulsively and emotionally. Sometimes it takes hours before the right moment comes and I can finally start painting. It also happens that I provoke such moments, and that I miss them. Nonetheless, the distance I have gained and the sufficient amount of time allow me to evaluate the right moment accurately, despite the fact that it might seem useless during the work itself.
