This image was inspired by the Greek Myth of Hyacinthus and Apollo, a tale of love between two men. The story ends in tragedy as an envious Zephyr (a God of Westerly Winds) ultimately kills his ex-lover Hyacinthus. Apollo turns Hyacinthus' blood into the first hyacinth.
