The Southern Coast as a vacation and recreation destination already has been established in the 19th century, during Soviet times even 10 million chose the area for their holidays. Tourism still is, alongside agriculture, the main branch of modern Crimean economy. Since the beginning of Crimean Crises in 2014, though solely Russian tourists would visit the resorts, at which the artist mainly photographed at night. For me, this series is a personal journey – I have been in Crimea three times: when Crimea was in Soviet Union, when it was Ukraine and now. In a documentary approach I recorded fronts of closed sandwich bars and supermarkets, closed shutters, fences and walls block the view from the actual touristic attractions at night. The combination of empty streets, closed shops at nights evoke an ambivalent and spooky atmosphere.
