Artist Serge Lis Eliseev With his work LAZARUS In his Studio. Serge Lis Eliseev was born in Sakhalin Island in 1954 and moved to Saint-Petersburg in 1961. He is chemist engineer. He was musician, karate instructor, customs officer and driver during his life. His main hobbies were music and sport. He was a drummer and singer in Rock band “Long Distance”. Serge found a camera in 2000 after his father’s death and he became interested in black-and-white photography. It was his first step in art. He was admitted a member of the Union of artists of Russia in 2005 as photographer. Serge experimented a lot with coloring black-and-white prints with acrylic and aniline in 2013-2014. It was the result that he began to create oil painting on canvas in February 2015 Being a self-taught and self-represented artist gives him the freedom and proficiency to express himself with oils and other mediums, his work has evolved through his own personal experience. The internet has always been his greatest source of information and techniques. He strives to improve his craft with every new portrait or fantasy picture he paints. Artist Statement I was a rock musician, a karate coach, a photographer. In 2015, I tried to color my black-and-white print with aniline dyes. The result looked like an oil painting on canvas. I tried to paint the subject of one of my photos on canvas and have been painting oil paintings ever since Every work is a STEP FORWARD! I use of new techniques, tools and materials in the work. My inspiration is significant events in the life of the country and world cataclysms. As a photographer in the past, I used some of my photographic works as the basis for future paintings. The creating of process is similar to the Jam Session in jazz — a constant free improvisation My slogan, as the old karate Masters used to say: DESIRE, PATIENCE, EXERCISE
