Abstract image of smoke, straight from the camera. Forms part of the collection titled "Smoke Evolution". Charmed by the magic of the abstract and uncatchable nature of smoke as it evolves, Eleni Nicologlou gradually taught herself the skills needed to master this most technical of photographic techniques which is to “capture” smoke at the time of its “metamorphosis” in unaffected subtle forms that stimulate the imagination and mention surrealistic depictions. The photographer – creator, waiting like a keen hunter with a unique weapon her camera aimed towards the swirling smoke, captures with a “click” the fluidity of its form, interpreting it with her own visual poetry to an abstract expressionism. The challenge is to “enter” in an interpretative communication channel with the smoke, considering it as a living organism or as an animated subject… The Smoke’s Evolution in space and time, gives birth to images that have associative references to archetype, the untold dream and timeless memories, while each “transformation” raises subconscious images - suspended in time. All work is mounted face-on acrylic glass (face-mount technique). Highest quality photo printing on premium quality photographic paper, which is then presented using the “Face-Mount” technique on acrylic glass (1 cm depth). The “Face-Mount” technique creates an exceptionally impressive result to the final image, as both the saturation of the colours and the contrast of the image increase by approximately 30%, when lit correctly. Furthermore the image depth is also significantly increased and also the undesired light reflections are reduced unlike that of from a common glass. The rear side of the artwork is also face mounted with black acrylic glass (3mm depth) and a special hanging system. The sides of the completed artwork are then taken to a second specialist who hand polishes the edges so as to further introduce light into the artwork. All original pieces are signed and certified by the artist. Greece
Eleni Nikologlou was born in Athens. Her involvement in the visual arts started from a young age and was a key factor in shaping her personality and a way of internal dialogue and soul searching. As an artist she is involved in photography, illustration, painting, sculpture and the creation of functional prototype marionettes, using a variety of mixed techniques. After graduating in Philosophy and subsequently earning a second degree in Psychology, she developed a particular interest in photography. She found her voice through her apprenticeship with the renowned Greek photographer Mr.Platon Rivellis, helping her fine tune her expression via her art. This creative acquaintance with the world of photography functioned as a catalyst in determining her professional direction and shaping her artistic identity as a fine art photographer. Influenced by a lifelong interest in art that surpasses reality and the obvious, she leans towards the transformation of usual and insignificant subjects, into evocative and revealing images via her subjective artistic vision. Eleni says: "I want the image to engage the viewer and provide them with associations, ideas, dreams and memories. Furthermore, a title serves as a guide, but it is just that, a guide. The interpretation should first be done by the viewer... It should be an individual internal journey..."
