I love bridges, which is interesting in it's own right, since I once was terrified of them, a neighbor back in Brooklyn, having been killed in a car accident on one when I was a young child. My brother actually is a project manager restoring bridges and my grandfather was deputy commissioner of Public Works in New York City, responsible for the building and maintaining of bridges, so there are those connections, as well. Not to mention I was for a time a transportation reporter, meaning I wrote a lot of stories about bridges and the roads that cross them -- though I think I just love all the different design elements that make bridges what they are. My dad shot a bunch of photos of the Hell Gate back in the 60s, when it was still painted in a distinctive purple, paint that's long-faded now. My wife and I drove over to Astoria one morning this summer and I shot a bunch of photos of the Triboro -- now known as the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge -- and the Hell Gate, as well as photos between the two along the East River. I've since gone back with filters and shot additional test series of the bridges, but I'm still working out those shots. This offering is of the original large-scale test print of this shot. It measures 27.6 x 16 -- that's 29.2 x 17.6 with the border -- on Hahnemuhle William Turner . . . I do plan to offer a limited edition series of smaller prints [probably on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta] at a later date, but for now I am offering this single print version which will be numbered and signed as 1/1 . . . I'm a national award-winning journalist and nine-time Pulitzer nominee who's made hundreds of TV and radio appearances, including NPR and Good Morning America. Author of Swee'pea [Simon & Schuster / Atria], a critically acclaimed book centered around New York City playground basketball legend Lloyd (Swee'pea) Daniels, I've been featured in several documentary films -- including the Emmy Award-winning ESPN 30-for-30 Big Shot. While I've worked primarily as a sports reporter, news reporter, columnist and investigative journalist, I've also done travel writing and photography during a four-decade career at a major New York daily paper, and I'm currently shopping my first novel. This marks my first foray into selling my fine art photography . . . P.S. I've noticed that when it comes to calling up full screen versions of some photos they appear to lack clarity. PLEASE use the "Original" file -- especially, when you're looking at Open Edition prints -- because those files appear to be proper large-scale renditions. Hoping this gets rectified . . .
