About The Artwork

Digital C-print from 35mm color negative From photographic series "Bullet Holes 3" The documented bullet holes in this series date back from the time between April 28th and May 2nd, 1945. They are the surviving traces from the heavy street fighting that took place between the German and Soviet forces in the “Battle for Berlin”. The bullet holes comprised in this series differ from the ones presented in BH and BH2: they are smaller in size, often without a neighbor, sometimes the hole is a linear crack, filled with water, or a cigarette butt, and weeds grow in them. These indentations in stone, these scars are quite unique. They are embedded into the sidewalks of Berlins’ central districts, where many of the former government buildings were located. Each photograph will be signed, lined with a translucent interleaving sheet and shipped in sturdy poster roll. Size for each print is approximately 27"x40"x0.1" 2/15 Limited edition C-Print on photo paper or archival pigment print on Hahnemühle paper. Mounting options and larger customized sizes upon request. Options include mounting onto .063" aluminum with 1/4" face-in clear plexiglas. Inquire for pricing and shipping options. Samples of additional work and larger scale projects can be seen on my website at www.arunkuplas.com

Born: 1967, Chandigarh, IndiaProfession: PhotographerResidence: New York CityIn my work I focus on the aesthetic qualities that are found within objects, architectural structures and people. The historical background of these diverse entities creates a common platform. Appearances are shaped and reshaped by significant political and social events. The presented photography projects examine the aspects of layered traces of objects and people. The duality of the process of creation versus destruction composes the theme of my photographs.
