Born in Saarlouis, Germany on the French border, Nimmesgern grew up in an international, French-German household. As a teenager he discovered photography while exploring the art of painting. Although he began photographing landscapes in order to be able to paint them indoors, it was not long before he began taking photos of those same landscapes simply for the sake of the photographs. When his first exhibition featuring landscapes of the area in Bavaria called "The Inn" was completely sold out, he knew then and there, he would be a photographer for life. In 1980 Nimmesgern earned his degree at the Saarland School of Photography. Never afraid to get his hands dirty, Nimmesgern has always had his own lab where he develops his own film and techniques to create effects. In 1983 he founded his first advertising studio in Saarbruecken, Germany, where he specialized in food and beverage photography - not surprising considering his French-German upbringing and his undying passion for fine food and wine. Nimmesgern's ubiquitous curiosity has since taken him to live and work all over the globe, including San Francisco, Cypress, New York, Berlin and finally, in Germany on Lake Starnberg near Munich, where he now lives with his wife of over 15 years and works in his own studio (when he is not on location). Nimmesgern's personal interests are as varied as the subjects of his photography, which range from people and fashion to architecture and food. Over the years, he has especially enjoyed the thrill of producing photo-reports in the far corners of the globe, capturing locations impossible to reach for most people. Nimmesgern's work is defined by his view - original, honest and uncompromising.
