"Photography to me is a miracle, a true one way time machine. It can stop and preserve the present, which is on its way to becoming the past with the speed of light. The moment of exposure is the photographer's moment of truth." A personal letter of recommendation from Irvin Penn gave Jim the opportunity to secure a position with Studio Associates. Studio was created by Conde Nast to provide the publication with top notch photography from such world famous photographers as Constantine Joffe, Herbert Matter, Sante Forlano, and others. This gave Jim an excellent opportunity to learn. Along the way it seemed necessary to earn a living, so Jim founded Z Productions. The company produced over 2500 commercials, winning numerous awards including: Cannes Film Festival, Clios, International Broadcast and New York Art Directors Club. Z Productions presented Federico Fellini, Milos Forman, and Robert Blalack for special TV commercial assignments. Since 1980 Jim has been a member of the Directors Guild of America. He was charter member and former Vice President of SPAR (Society of Artist and Photographers Representatives). Jim was also elected Chairman of the 14th and 15th IBA Worldwide TV Commercial Competition. He was a guest lecturer and critic at The Rhode Island School of Design, The Fashion Institute of Technology, The Rochester Institute of Technology and other educational institutions concerned with the technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. Jim's articles have appeared in Backstage, Business Screen and Making Films. He has appeared on television with John O'Connor, former NY Times TV critic. Jim has produced and directed projects for Young & Rubicam, J. Water Thompson, Della Femina Travisano, Anheuser Busch and Cunard Cruise Lines. Jim is married to Dolores Zaccaro, a TV Commercial Stylist, Costume and Children's Clothes Designer. They share their time between homes in New York City and Lyme, Connecticut.
