Glacier ice in Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland. Part of a series of photographs taken during a week in Iceland exploring ice caves and glaciers. The patterns in the ice are like abstract paintings. The blue-ness or cloudiness of the ice is caused by how much compression it has undergone during the formation of the glacier. This was taken on a brilliantly sunny afternoon in November. The enormous glacier lagoon is full of the sound of chinking from the floating glacier chunks, which can take 10 or more years to melt away. Some are 30m high! The lagoon is growing rapidly in size and the glaciers surrounding it are retreating incredibly fast. There was no lagoon at all 60 years ago! Printed as an image 16"x12" with 2" white border. Total paper size 20"x16". Materials used: C Type Durst Lambda Photographic Prints on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper

Laura draws inspiration from ordinary things that are often overlooked but have hidden meanings to be unlocked. She encourages viewers to see the items in a new way by showing them on a sparse, uncluttered canvas in their own uninvaded space. By sharing her vision she leads the viewer to a fresh appreciation of the world, as well as offering an invitation to consider the potential artistic value in things that might otherwise be dismissed. Painting and drawing have long been Laura’s main preoccupation. She originally trained in Theatre Design (BA Hons) at Nottingham Trent University after a childhood obsessed with theatre. Her work includes set and costume design for Alan Ayckbourn world premieres. She also founded an award winning interior design business. She says the work has helped her develop her feeling for form, space and colour.
