The vertigo of the gaze and the kaleidoscope, photocompositions taken from the series "Kaleidoscope #1: imaginary cities". Direct print on aluminum dibond, ready to hang. In this composition I have amplified the imperceptible color hidden by the "traditional" apparent grayness of Milanese buildings in an "any" district of a non-central area, far from the fashionable worldliness... what would this gray block of flats dream of being?... The idea for this photographic series came from a small kaleidoscopic lens purchased in a shop in Venice, an object which in its simplicity offers unexpected ways of looking at the world. Further sources of inspiration were reading the book "Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino and some essays on living in the modern city. Seen through that small lens and filtered by the imagery of the readings mentioned, the city breaks down and reassembles itself. Modern architecture blends with the buildings of the past, just as urban agglomerations are transformed into universes that are closed in on themselves or projected towards utopian or dystopian times, each with its own story to imagine but which draws inspiration from facts or real characters, often forgotten, hidden in the details of these compositions. As in the panoramic shots of today's metropolis, there is no space for the representation of man, who vanishes in these particular visions of suspended cities, subject to the laws of abstract perspectives, which try to anchor themselves to a territory they often fail to see.

I studied portrait and still-life photography in Milan and attended various workshops with photographers world-class wedding reportage. After gaining experience at some photographic studios in Bergamo I chose to devote myself to my personal search for a photographic and artistic language more akin to my sensitivity. For my works are drawn to everything about communication (and the difficulty of communicating) between people (see my web site www.ivanbignamifoto.com , "Incomunic-abili" project). Through Saatchiart website I promote another aspect of my artistic research: architectural contrasts in large cities and urban geometries abstracted from their context.
