What is the portrait of Porto in 2010? In which form does it reflect the each day wider ethnic life? How do the different social classes co-exist on this new urbanity? How is the periphery portrayed on this urban society? Who are we today, what is our face and what is the value of the life each one of us dreams of? And photography, how is it connected with the world of research? Is it art an ally of the social sciences on the search of knowledge, coexisting therefore the artistic and the scientific laboratory? What are the assumptions of a contemporary portuguese photography? How can my images reflect photography history at the same time they are enrolled in the questions of our time? I want to develop a series of portraits that will answer these questions, using a formal strategy connected with the one used on the 19’s carte-de-visite, applyed to a visual mapping of the present society of Porto. Pose is a concept that collide with our time, that is like digital photographic by definition and default quick and apparently democratic. Developing a lighting technique that will maximize the combined use of natural and artificial light, and exploring different technical options, between analogue photography and digital manipulation. This project will be made on the metropolitan region of Porto.
