About The Artwork

Photography: Giclée, Color, Digital, Paper, Photo on Paper. Printed with a 3 cm white border on Fine Art paper using 12-color pigment inks ensuring archival longevity. Delivered with a certificate of authenticity and the artist’s signature on back of print. Different sizes on request. Taken from a boat floating down the Irrawaddy River in 1996, during a period of six months when I was living in South East Asia. I was playing violin in the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra using vacation time to explore the surrounding countries. As well as other parts of Thailand and Laos, I also travelled to Burma for two weeks stopping at Yongon, where I took this photograph.

Mark McEvoy has been a photographer for over 30 years, travelling extensively pursing long-term projects at home and abroad. His eclectic work is series based, mostly led by his fascination with human behavior, cultural and psychological identity and the contrasts that divide the world through opposing beliefs and traditions. Since completing an MA in Design and Interactive Media (2001) he has been exploring digital-photo narrative through video, sound and music as well as experimenting with traditional and digital photographic processes. His work stems from a documentary approach that is intuitive and visceral. Through technical constraints and specific approaches he seeks what lies below the surface, unnoticed or ignored. He is interested in developing a visual language that sits in limbo, betwixt and between, blurring the boundaries of genres, modes, disciplines and realms.
