Australia
David was born 1954 in Umtali, Southern Rhodesia (now Mutare, Zimbabwe). When 9 years old he emigrated to Australia with his family, growing up in Perth. David's love of architectural forms was fostered by his father, who was a builder with the eye and heart of an architect. His passion for photography grew out of a childhood hobby and became a full time career. Even back then, as now, he was consciously looking for that different point of view. Artists like David Hockney, Jeffrey Smart and Picasso have always been creative inspirations. The theme that tracks through David's body of work across the years is the built environment; its graphic lines and abstracted forms. More recently this has evolved into an exploration of how we might shift our everyday perceptions of our urban and industrial world beyond the habitual and mundane ways of our everyday lives. By bringing curiosity, and by exploring unique viewpoints, he asks what other ways of seeing might be possible, encouraging a dynamic interplay of relationship between ourselves and our built environment. David's work hangs in private and corporate collections in Australia and overseas.
