About The Artwork

The original shot I made at Cimetiere du Nord in the Montmarte section of Paris back in 2004. As I mentioned in the cropped shot of this, I love wandering through cemeteries, mostly because, as a writer, I want to see what histories, what stories, I might stumble upon. I loved the way the light went through the trees behind this cross, the various graves in the background, and during the time I was making shots this mourner came -- stayed for a moment of reflection at a grave in the distance -- and left. I hadn't seen him, focused as I was on the shot I was trying to compose. But later, when I sat down to process the shots, I found him in some -- and loved the fact he was caught in what amounted to window. That is, a window into a moment in a life and a moment of quiet reflection in a life. I didn't visit the gravesite he stood at, silent . . . I hadn't realized he'd even been there until much later. But I thought it all was just this fragile moment in time. So, I've now made two prints in somewhat different forms. Yes, they're both small. But I hope you find them as powerful as I did . . . Limited edition prints, numbered and signed, on Canson Arches Aquarelle Rag, measuring 8 x 9.9 -- or 9.6 x 11.5 with border

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I'm a national award-winning journalist and nine-time Pulitzer nominee who's made hundreds of TV and radio appearances, including NPR and Good Morning America. Author of Swee'pea [Simon & Schuster / Atria], a critically acclaimed book centered around New York City playground basketball legend Lloyd (Swee'pea) Daniels, I've been featured in several documentary films -- including the Emmy Award-winning ESPN 30-for-30 Big Shot. While I've worked primarily as a sports reporter, news reporter, columnist and investigative journalist, I've also done travel writing and photography during a four-decade career at a major New York daily paper, and I'm currently shopping my first novel. This marks my first foray into selling my fine art photography . . . P.S. I've noticed that when it comes to calling up full screen versions of some photos they appear to lack clarity. PLEASE use the "Original" file -- especially, when you're looking at Open Edition prints -- because those files appear to be proper large-scale renditions. Hoping this gets rectified . . .
