About The Artwork

In this photograph, the viewer is transported to a realm of architectural splendor. The bank of elevators, positioned on the second floor of the office building, becomes the focal point of the composition, exuding a sense of understated grandeur. The warm light streaming from the overhead glass ceiling casts a mesmerizing pattern of light and shadow on the tiled floor and wall. This interplay of light creates a dynamic visual tapestry, infusing the space with a sense of depth and dimension. The juxtaposition of light and shadow adds a touch of drama to the scene, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the captivating play of luminosity. Amidst this enchanting display of light, a large sign boldly proclaims "Level 2," serving as a visual distraction that announces the location with a sense of confident authority. The photograph captures a moment of quiet elegance and contemporary allure, inviting the viewer to appreciate the harmonious convergence of architectural form and luminous beauty.

I have been a photographer for four decades in New York and currently reside in Brooklyn. My body of work is titled Misbegotten Places, which involves creating small dioramas from photographs I have taken. Through careful camera angles and lighting, these dioramas are transformed into lifelike images that can often deceive the viewer, while always conveying a sense of "misbegotten." The lines between reality and fiction are blurred, as these lifelike dioramas, when photographed, often deceive the viewer with their uncanny realism. However, true to the collection's title, "Misbegotten Places," each scene is infused with a subtle element of the unexpected or the out-of-place, challenging the viewer's perception and inviting them to delve deeper into the narratives woven within these meticulously crafted compositions.
