The Citroën Traction Avant was a very popular and distinctive car, built by the French company between 1934 to 1957. In France, the Traction is known as "Reine de la Route" ("Queen of the Road"). Many of these cars gave reliable service to both French and German armies during WW2 and were also the preferred vehicle of the French Resistance. As occupation gave way to liberation, they turned up all over France with ‘FFI’ (French Forces of the Interior) inscribed proudly on their doors. Less gloriously, the cars were known as favourites among gangsters such as the then infamous Pierre Loutrel, better known as ‘Pierrot le Fou’ (crazy Pete) and his ‘Gang des Tractions Avant’. The Traction Avant has made over 1,300 film/TV appearances, including prominent roles in the films ‘The Sound of Music’ (U.S.A.) and ‘Diva’ (France). - This print was produced from a scan of the original 35mm negative. It is an archival pigment print produced using Canon ‘Lucia Pro’ inks on Canson Platine Fibre Rag 310gsm paper. Image size 37 x 51 cms. Paper size 42 x 59 cms. Edition of 30 + 2 AP. This combination of materials exceeds the ISO 9706 grade standard that has been developed to meet galleries and museum's longevity requirements, guaranteeing generations of image permanence, when displayed and stored in the correct conditions. My printing technique stems from 30+ years of traditional darkroom experience. Adapted to modern processes it continues to convey my own personal style. All prints are hand-signed, numbered, titled and dated on the back and include a Certificate of Authenticity. They are enclosed in acid-free tissue and shipped in a strong cardboard tube to any country worldwide. Other sizes are available on request.
