This photograph presents a striking juxtaposition of elements, capturing a red winged back chair positioned beneath the intense glare of an overhead skylight. The chair, with its bold and commanding presence, becomes the focal point of the composition, exuding an aura of enigmatic authority within the space. The interplay of light and shadow creates a dramatic and evocative atmosphere, as the skylight casts a harsh, unyielding illumination upon the chair, infusing the scene with an unsettling sense of mystery and tension. The stark contrast between the vibrant red upholstery of the chair and the stark, unforgiving light contributes to the creation of an atmosphere that is both captivating and disquieting. The composition conveys a sense of unease and intrigue, as the room itself seems to exude an air of enigmatic power and unresolved narrative. The photograph invites viewers to contemplate the complex interplay of elements, evoking a profound sense of curiosity and introspection. It is a visual narrative that hints at untold stories and unresolved tensions, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in its enigmatic allure.

I have been a photographer for four decades in New York and currently reside in Brooklyn. My body of work is titled Misbegotten Places, which involves creating small dioramas from photographs I have taken. Through careful camera angles and lighting, these dioramas are transformed into lifelike images that can often deceive the viewer, while always conveying a sense of "misbegotten." The lines between reality and fiction are blurred, as these lifelike dioramas, when photographed, often deceive the viewer with their uncanny realism. However, true to the collection's title, "Misbegotten Places," each scene is infused with a subtle element of the unexpected or the out-of-place, challenging the viewer's perception and inviting them to delve deeper into the narratives woven within these meticulously crafted compositions.
