Though I've been to 20 countries, 45 of the 50 U.S. states and more than half of the provinces and territories in Canada, the latter thanks to my days as a hockey writer, I first visited England this summer and not only spent a lot of time touring and shooting photos in London [I'm putting together a series of shots on London and London bridges as we speak] -- but also managed to get out to Stonehenge, Bath, Canterbury and Dover. I'm still working on the final production edit of this shot of the white cliffs and the English Channel, but here's the latest working edit . . . Right now, I've got it slated for a really nice-sized print on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta, which I find is terrific for black & white renditions. The working size is 25 x 16 -- with border, that'd be 26.6 x 17.6 -- but waiting for test prints to come in from a renowned print lab I use to see if I think that's best. The file resolution is really solid, so size only matters when it comes to what works -- and what's overkill. My wife and I sort of wished I'd undertaken the walk along the cliffs a decade ago instead of now in my 60s, but what the heck. They're an impressive sight and as a bonus, due to the location, you get a Hello message on your cell phone connection from France. As a military history buff whose great uncle was a U.S. Air Force navigator on a Boeing B-17 bomber in World War II, seeing the cliffs made me think of the emotion felt by a bunch of war-weary kids coming back from missions over Europe . . .

I'm a national award-winning journalist and nine-time Pulitzer nominee who's made hundreds of TV and radio appearances, including NPR and Good Morning America. Author of Swee'pea [Simon & Schuster / Atria], a critically acclaimed book centered around New York City playground basketball legend Lloyd (Swee'pea) Daniels, I've been featured in several documentary films -- including the Emmy Award-winning ESPN 30-for-30 Big Shot. While I've worked primarily as a sports reporter, news reporter, columnist and investigative journalist, I've also done travel writing and photography during a four-decade career at a major New York daily paper, and I'm currently shopping my first novel. This marks my first foray into selling my fine art photography . . . P.S. I've noticed that when it comes to calling up full screen versions of some photos they appear to lack clarity. PLEASE use the "Original" file -- especially, when you're looking at Open Edition prints -- because those files appear to be proper large-scale renditions. Hoping this gets rectified . . .
