Switzerland
I am a medical doctor with a general practice in Zurich, Switzerland, since 21 years (www.diehausaerztin.ch). As you can see, I love to take photos mainly of nature, beaches, large spaces. Colours and light are very challenging to me. The landscapes and themes I want to capture dictate where I travel with my husband. That is why we went to Greenland in 2010, Namibia, regularly to Brasil, USA etc. Taking photos is painting with light. Especially the blurred pictures, printed on a mat cotton canvas look like painting, this to such a extent that i have to tell the person watching that this is a photo, although I don't "photoshop" the photos. At most i emphasize or diminish the colors or contrasts or crop the photo. I also do paint for the sake of colours and movement. To me painting is very dynamic act, almost exercise, like doing sport. It liberates me and allows me to "feel" myself in an active and intellectual way. As a general practitioner I often feel my role is about absorbing other peoples issues and it is often hard to see the result of this personal "investment". Taking photos and painting is about (re)acting, producing something tangible, being in a (silent) dialogue with yourself and the world around you. These two worlds I live in, in which I am evolving, complement each other.
