About The Artwork

. . . ' NEWS UPDATE ! ! . . . OCTOBER 2015 . . . ARTWORK: "Black Mountain's Legacy" 2013 Archival Limited Edition Print on Cotton Rag Paper (300 gsm) Below Image: Artist Signed and Numbered Print chop mark embossed lower left corner Image Art Plate: 9 x 18.5 in: acrylic paint Paper: 17 x 22 in. (43.18 x 55.88 cm.) Edition of 48 Black Mountain College and its influence have always held a great deal of interest for me and this piece of art is a tribute to its history and legacy. Many of the Artists that were a part of the American Abstract Expressionist Art movement were active at the college as teachers or students during its years of operation. Established in 1933 near Asheville, North Carolina it was a new kind of liberal arts school, whose sole purpose and focus was on the Arts. Some of the names associated with the school included: Willem de Kooning, Robert Rauschenberg, Josef and Anni Albers, Jacob Lawrence, Merce Cunningham, John Cage, Cy Twombly, Kenneth Noland, Franz Kline, Arthur Penn, Buckminster Fuller, and Robert Motherwell to name only a very few. From its core ... those famous and not-so-famous had a significant impact on the world. Even now, decades after its closing in 1957, the powerful influence of Black Mountain College continues to reverberate.

I am an American Artist working as a Painter and Printmaker. My background encompasses a career in both the fine arts and graphic arts. Combining these with my love of Fine Art Prints, I view printmaking as an opportunity to create works on paper that truly reflect my personal vision as an artist. In my approach I integrate imagery and simple use of color with white space, creating an artful sense of immediacy --- And using an abstract style I strive for a humanly poetic quality, and always a personal truth. My process is not unlike the traditional one used historically by all Printmakers of Limited Edition Prints. Considered a collaboration between the artist and often a master printer/technician, together they produce a limited piece of art of the highest quality. And today that technician’s skill set may also incorporate the power of technology. One thing of importance to note about a traditional Limited Edition Print: The only ‘original artwork’ produced is in the totality of the final Print; which must be inscribed with the Artist’s signature and edition number and the Printer’s embossed chop mark . . . Last thought --- as the person who wears all of these hats: the designer, painter, technology specialist and printer --- it is wonderful to be sharing these prints on Saatchi.
