About The Artwork

This piece was inspired by a conversation with my brother regarding living as an openly gay man in London. This piece celebrates this love as well as all types of love- be they same sex, platonic, familial. The medium of monotype is very direct - the printmaker is never certain how the print will turn out; a collaboration of sorts takes place between the printmaker and the print bed. I then work directly into the unique print using oil pastel and mixed media in a multilayered unique technique.

Taking the Female experience as the central theme within my practice, my work illustrates often highly personal stories from my own, as well as others’, lives; I use raw printmaking techniques including monotype and lithography to illustrate often highly sexually charged, erotic and romantic scenes. Working into these unique monotypes with paint and mixed media. My work also presents itself to me through my dreams – presenting me with characters that ask to be realised through my practice. Including men, horses and mythical creatures from the subconscious world. My work questions sexuality and gender boundaries and what it is to be ‘feminine’ in our ever-changing world, revealing a personal as well as a wider political inquiry. I formerly read English Literature and Art History followed by a Foundation in Art (specialising in Textiles) at The London College of Fashion both of which have heavily influenced my work, followed by studying Illustration at The Glasgow School of Art, thus text and language interplay with figures and pattern in the creation of my narratives and aesthetic.
