So, I'm standing in the window of a sex shop in Glasgow, Scotland, waving at passers by. Dressed in chaps, a leather armband, eye-mask and Stetson...yup, like a kinky lone ranger, stepped outta the pages of a physique pictorial type magazine of the fifties. No, it wasn't just a usual Tuesday afternoon..well maybe at that time it was. Y'see I was filming a lot of little promos for a gay men's health charity to bring awareness of safe sex, HIV prevention, etc...and this was yet another of our crazy little sketches. It was based on Mr Ben, a children's cartoon series of the seventies in the UK. Mr Ben would pop into a clothes shop and the shopkeeper would appear "as if by magic", and offer the 'conservatively dressed, bowler hatted' Mr Ben some crazy new outfit to wear - anything from space suits, to knight's armour. Mr Ben would pop it on and off he'd go for some fantastical adventure...until it was time to return to his normal hum-drum, respectable life. He never wore the leather chaps, armband, and other leather bits and bobs though like 'my' Mr Ben in the sex shop window, but it was children's tv after all. But, like any other type of hero, there were two sides to Mr Ben, just like there are two sides to all of us. The 'respectable' conservative side, and then the wilder side that we show when we pop into our own magic place! The piece itself is a limited edition Giclee print. This is number 3 out of 100. It's a reproduction of my original oil painting "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys!". I've chosen Hahnemuhle "William Turner" fine art archival paper for this piece as its texture is amazing and really brings the image to life. The image itself measures 16" x 10" and the paper measures 13" x 19" which leaves a nice little border for mounting and framing. Each piece will be signed and numbered on the border. So, give this lonesome cowboy a home. He'll be as happy hanging out in your 'playroom' as he will be watching the world go by on your bedroom or lounge wall. *My original oil painting "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys!" is also available on Saatchi art.
