594 x 841 mm Ultrachrome print on 300gsm Revere Magnani cotton paper Edition: 30 This is the centre piece of a triptyc, depicting the artist as the Tarot's Hanged Man. Life is hanging in the balance for our species, and the planet. Chinese symbols for the year of the horse (2014) are shown alongside a news report of the 1004 rhinos poached in 2013... In the Tarot iconography, the Hanged Man signifies a crossroad, an imminent choice to be made.

Charl Gräbe was born in 1970, and has obtained a BA(FA) Hons in Information Design from the University of Pretoria. He currently lives in Johannesburg. His work is included in collections in Brussels, London, USA and in South Africa. He has been invited as AIR at the Venice Biennale, and will be at Cité Internationale des Arts Paris in 2014. He has exhibited work at the Association for Visual Arts in Cape Town, as well as the Belville Art Association. His next solo exhibition, Carnival, is at the Gallery on 6th, Johannesburg in July.
