A limited edition giclée print of an image painted in 2012. It is hand-signed in pencil, printed onto high quality, Hahnemühle German Etching paper and presented unframed. The size is the same as the original painting of 40cmx50cm but with an additional 3cm blank border area. This painting is of an 19th century pub/inn in Stockport, Northern England named the Crown Inn which is nestled in an industrial area under a large railway viaduct. It is a nocturnal scene of a quintessential English pub painted with a rich use of colour in a distortive, expressionist style in which the poetic feelings inspired by the view are expressed. The mood of the painting is both joyous and celebratory, conveying a sense of anticipation at the world of warmth and promise within the building and also at the beauty of the landscape on a summer evening, the pleasure of being alive and out and about and able to see the stars and smell the warm air. The song, 'The Heart of Saturday Night' by Tom waits, comes to mind. It is also celebration of pub culture and a celebration of colour.

Michael Gutteridge was born in Manchester, Northern England, birthplace of the industrial revolution. I began painting professionally in 2001, when, after submitting a painting in an Open Exhibition at Stockport Art Gallery, I was invited by them to present a full exhibition of 20 paintings the following year. Since then, I've continued to develop and explore my own unique vision which mostly involves trying to capture exciting, vibrant, stimulating or moodful aspects of the urban landscape, especially of my home city of Manchester and its environs. Especially, just lately, at night. I was recently shortlisted as one of the finalists from 12,000 entries for the Aesthetica Creative Arts competition. My images have been used promotionally by the University of Lancaster, the University of Manchester, in pop videos, in magazines, on the covers of books and even made into postcards by the Manchester Tourist Office. They are exhibited regularly in the North of England, and are in private collections around the world.
