Sculpture, Wood on Plastic

Bow and Arrow Series are in the collection of Albright-Knox, originally owned by Seymour Knox II. This piece has same characteristics, being a construction of virgin beam wood from a downtown Buffalo office building built 150 years ago, that wood cut from trees that grew during the American revolution, then cut some time after US Civil war. I renewed its purpose making it into art. Acrylic clear plastic, a modern material flexes over the old wood, taught on a cedar arrow, tenuously placed by careful angled drilling and sensitively placed into two arcs. They represent future; optimism; hope, reuse, while the old virgin beam is critically severed in two halves. Saw marks are enhanced by grey paint applied long ago. textures of natural material juxtaposed with slick new acrylic plastic provides old and new together in this series. Seven pieces in this series exist.
